Sometimes, there is a problem with the blood flow, and there is just not enough pressure to make the penis go erect. In such cases, the penis remains limp, and there is no erection. Also, sometimes the erection does not last long because blood flow does not continue to the penis with steady pressure. All of this is erectile dysfunction.

What Viagra does is helps the smooth muscles in the penis to relax, and blood flow to the penis becomes smoother. The drug Viagra also ensures that this effect lasts for a long time, and a man can have an erection for quite a while. Viagra works only when a man is sexually aroused. So, you won’t get an erection unless you think about sex, which can save you a lot of trouble.

Levitra and Cialis also work the same way, but they work faster than Viagra, that is within a period of 30 minutes while Viagra takes an hour. Levitra and Viagra have to be taken without food once a day, while Cialis can be taken with food. Levitra and Viagra keep working their effects for about 4 hours, but Cialis can last for an astounding 36 hours. The FDA has given out an advisory against the intake of these drugs with alpha blockers and nitrate medications.

On the whole, these drugs are considered as safe, but a few complications and side effects can result. Indigestion, headache, heartburn, flushing, changes in vision, back pain and muscle ache are some of the side effects that can occur. Viagra has also recently been linked with hearing loss, so careful intake of the drug is advisable. Erectile dysfunction drugs are also known to cause a permanent erection, which needs medical treatment to prevent damage to the penis. An erection over 4 hours can be classified as a permanent erection.

Erectile dysfunction drugs have been around for a long time, and their reign will extend as long as man needs a treatment for erectile dysfunction.
